Just Paint Tableview extends a helping hand to Autistic children.
Tableview, Western Cape –Tuesday, 26 February 2008. Despite the fact that Autism affects 1 in 86 children of all racial, ethnic & socio-economic backgrounds, the complications associated with the disease keep the sufferers out of the public eye, and sadly often out of mind too. Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, the main characteristics being restricted interests and repetitive behaviour varying in symptoms, severity and impact. People with Autism have difficulty communicating, forming relationships with others, and making sense of the world around them. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child's life and since most Autistic children demonstrate significantly challenging behaviours, they need specialist support & care. Early behavioural or cognitive intervention can help children gain self-care, social, and communication skills but unfortunately there is no cure, and few children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood.
Gerhard Pieterse of Autism Western Cape notes that since “Autism does not show any external signs…[the organisation’s] ability to raise funds for our many adults and children affected by Autism is adversely impacted. It is apparent that all too often, if people cannot “see” the severity or complexity of the problem, the motivation to assist is diminished.” Not so for the staff of Just Paint Tableview however. The local paint retail outlet has become involved with this most needy and often forgotten group through Autism Western Cape’s Growth Through Knowledge School for Autistic Learners, a small specialised unit consisting of 10 children between the ages of 4 – 18 years old. The school, situated in Table View, has recently received a donation of paint from the local décor specialists. “The paint was used in the newly established sensory room, which will make a significant contribution towards [the children’s] long term development.” says Pieterse. Moreover, in true community spirit, application of the paint was done by one of Just Paint Tableview’s long standing clients, Shane Roberts from R & R Roofing & Painting, who is also well known in the local community for his coaching involvement with Tableview Soccer Club.
It’s this kind of commitment to the community that makes Just Paint a genuinely special retail operation and one which is changing the often impersonal face of the paint industry everyday. Next time you find yourself in the vicinity of 212 Blaauwberg Road in Tableview why not stop in and meet Lorraine Kritzinger and her team. When you find yourself dealing with a company that truly cares, you’ll notice the difference. After all as Just Paint National Retail Marketing Manager, Jean-Paul Mouton, put it, “Service is really our game, to tell you the truth, selling paint and décor is secondary to the pursuit of customer service excellence. Our clients keep coming back because of the unmatched personal service they get. And when you think about it, community involvement such as that which we are involved in, with Autism Western Cape is just an extension of that service commitment”.
In today’s fast paced world, one rarely finds a company able to interact with all their clients in a friendly and professional manner, yet Just Paint Tableview seem to have found the time to not only keep their legions of clients delighted, but also to fit an entire bustling corporate social responsibility schedule into the work day. When one considers this Just Paint’s phenomenal growth and successes coupled with stories of community dedication like this, one can only conclude that service is indeed the ingredient which makes all the difference in modern retail business. |
